Take a self guided stroll or drive along Broadway Street in downtown Decorah. In 1976, as a Bi-Centennial project, the "Historic District" really came to life. The district offers a capsule history of the growth and development of Decorah. In this area were the first churches, distinguished homes, public school and the county courthouse. Phelps Park, also part of the tour, has an original kiln that provided bricks for many early homes and businesses and you can expect to see the charm of well manicured lawns, trees and flower beds to show the pride of the current owners.
The homes and buildings on this tour represent Midwestern architecture that dates back to the 1850's. Most homes are on the National Register of Historic Places.
