"Nature Sings"Location: 309 Winnebago St., Decorah, IA 52101
Event Date: Sun, Apr 23, 2017
Decorah Lutheran Church
Songbirds warble, waves crash, a loon calls out, and a brook babbles. The Northern Lights, comprised of 60 women representing a dozen communities of NE Iowa and SE Minnesota, will sing about these and other sounds of nature that enrich our lives. Instrumentalists enhancing many of the selections include oboist Kierra Blackstad, Suzanne Ernst on flute and recorder, Andrew Ellingsen playing lap dulcimer, and violinist Carina Yee.
In addition, the Northern Lights will perform five of their best selections from past concerts in preparation for their featured appearance later in the week at the first annual Iowa Choral Directors Association ‘Choral Showcase’ at Central College in Pella, Iowa. They were selected by audition to represent the category of Adult Community or Church Choir. The Decorah concert is made possible with support from the Depot Outlet. A free will offering will be taken with a portion of the collection to be donated to the Kids Lunch Club. This community program provides grab-and-go lunches for Decorah area kids. Volunteers pack and serve lunches with freshly prepared foods, fruits, and veggies to insure our area children have lunch opportunities during the summer months when school is not in session.
Special Guests Special guest artists performing at the Decorah concert will be the Luther Ringers, conducted by Dr. Gregory Peterson. Founded by Dr. Peterson in 2008, this auditioned ensemble comprised of thirteen student ring five octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and six octaves of Malmark Handchimes. Their performances are a feast for the eyes and the ears.
