Ice Fishing
From the diary of an ice fisherman...

Lake Meyer's Ice Fishing Derby
February 11, 2012  4:52 a.m. Long before the sun even begins to peak its sleepy winter head over the horizon here we are, registered for the event and bundled head to toe sitting on the frozen lake claiming our spot. Thermoses of hot coffee warm our chilled hands and skimmers are keeping the holes from freezing over. As I peek outside the collection of small tents resembles a village on the ice. In the middle of which is Naturalist Larry Reis' official weigh station. Reis will chart the day's best catches and I already hear him encouraging the youngest of fisherman in their pursuit. Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest large-mouth bass, pike, perch, crappie and bluegill. I hear there's door prizes to be given away too!

Whether you are carefully watching the bobber or just having fun being outside, Lake Meyer Fishing is the best ice fishing option in the area. Click below for more details. Many private ponds are scattered throughout Winneshiek County, but you must gain permission to fish on any private property.
